Application of deterministic fault-seal analysis for fault-bounding trap: a case study in Than Nong 1B prospect, Block 05-1(a), Nam Con Son basin, offshore Vietnam

Fault-seal analysis has long been applied for predicting potential hydrocarbon column mitigating risk in exploration and appraisals. Than Nong 1B structure Block 05-1(a), located nearby Dai Hung field, is a fault-bounding structure; thus, the fault seal capacity plays major role trapping hydrocarbon. In this study, H50 reservoir taken as an example of how fault-bounded prospects are evaluated 05-1(a). For case 1B, to meaningfully determine structure, geometric conducted fully understand 3D geometry structure. Moreover, vertical displacement faults inspected ensure quality input data horizons affect each other. After structural description conducted, study applies all common methods fault-seal from 1980s newest workflow published 2016, such sand-shale juxtaposition analysis, SGR height-column-prediction algorithms by Yielding et al. (2010). The results these then combined using Trap workflow, proposed Peter Bretan 2017, unique location leak point defining trappable suggest that prospect able hold maximum 183 m reservoir, significantly higher than 125 defined Fault-leak point. Furthermore, also proves effective method evaluating structures with high level linkage.
